How to turn MP3 files into regular/standard audio/music CDs

Condensed version for experienced users: Create a new set list in iTunes. drag your MP3 or other audio format, i.e., WAV, AIFF, etc. files into your iTunes set list, make sure the total length of the set list doesn’t exceed the maximum capacity of your blank CD (70 minutes is standard), and then click the “Burn Disc” button in iTunes.

Step-by-step version for not so experienced users:

Equipment needed:

Step 1: If you don’t have Apple iTunes, download it and install it.

Step 2: Exit all other programs.

Step 3: Open iTunes.

Step 4: Create a new Playlist (File (menu)/New Playlist). Name it whatever you want.

Step 5: With your new play list selected (highlighted), you should notice that there are no songs (audio files) listed on the right half of the iTunes window, because you haven’t put them there yet.

Move (drag the top of the iTunes window) and resize the iTunes window (drag the bottom right corner of the iTunes window) so you can see the desktop behind it at the same time. (If you’re REALLY new to computers, the “desktop” is what you see when you first turn on your computer or when all applications/programs are closed/exited.)

(Note: In Windows, if you can’t resize by dragging the bottom right corner of the iTunes window, it’s because the window is Maximized (totally fills the screen). If this is the case, click the “Restore down” button just to the left of the Close/Exit button at the top right corner of the window. THEN you should be able to resize by dragging the bottom left corner of the window.)

Step 6: Click on the desktop to activate it. Open the directory/folder that contains your MP3 or other audio format file(s).

Step 7: Resize the folder that contains your audio files so you can see both iTunes AND this folder.

Step 8:
Now click and drag the files from the folder on the desktop into the right half of iTunes. If this doesn’t work the first time, try it again. Patience, grasshopper!

Once you’ve done this, you will see at the bottom of the iTunes window how large and long your set is. If it’s longer than the maximum capacity of your CD, click on one or more files and hit the delete key to get rid of it in this set list.

Step 9: When you’re ready, insert a standard blank recordable CD into your CD burner. Give it a few seconds to recognize the disc.

Step 10: If given the choice, choose “Open with iTunes” (or something similar) from the drop down list.

Step 11: Click the “Burn Disc” button in iTunes (or select File (menu)/Burn Playlist to Disc. Follow the prompts and wait for it to complete.

When it’s done burning, eject the disc. You now have a standard audio CD that can be played on any standard audio CD player.
