What’s the (business AND personal) ROI of Appreciation?

High turnover costs companies billions of dollars every year, puts a huge drag on productivity, and ultimately puts a company’s viability at risk.

The number one reason people leave their jobs isn’t about the money. It’s because they don’t feel appreciated. People don’t leave a company, they leave their boss.

It blows my mind that for zero dollars (in most cases) and a minuscule amount of time, managers can engage in an activity that will significantly improve productivity, increase retention, and contribute to more happiness in the workplace. Read the rest of this entry »

If I’m happy now, won’t that diminish my motivation to succeed on a higher level?

Actually, the studies show the opposite to be true.

When you’re not happy or when you’re not happily achieving your goals, you tend to experience more stress, frustration, and anger along the way. These negative emotions in your body actually contribute to disease. You’ll notice it in the weakest part of your body first. So how can having a weakened immune system and poor health add to your motivation to achieve your goals? It can’t.

What’s the fastest way to succeed at being happy now?

Make a list of what you are grateful for. Read your list and try to get the feeling of gratitude as soon as you wake up every morning and in the evening right before you go to bed. If you only do this once a day, do it in the morning.

I actually made a recording of what I’m grateful for and instead of a loud, obnoxious alarm clock that startles me out of my sleep, I’m gently awakened with the cassette tape that plays my voice reminding me of what I’m grateful for. It’s a great way to begin your day. Rather than focusing on what you don’t have, this helps you focus on, and be thankful for, what you do have.

How to turn MP3 files into regular/standard audio/music CDs

Condensed version for experienced users: Create a new set list in iTunes. drag your MP3 or other audio format, i.e., WAV, AIFF, etc. files into your iTunes set list, make sure the total length of the set list doesn’t exceed the maximum capacity of your blank CD (70 minutes is standard), and then click the “Burn Disc” button in iTunes.
